XRAY002... AT LAST!!

After surprising ourselves and everyone else with the very successful release of XRAY001 (Trogons’ flexidisc single ‘Contina’), X-Ray Recordings are excited to finally announce our second release (ok, we had a false start on this one, but we’re serious now ok?). Casting our eyes across the pond, XRAY002 is with Atlanta riot grrrls The Coathangers. It's a limited edition hand numbered transparent flexidisc featuring tracks 'Hurricane' and 'Johnny' and is out on October 24th. It'll look a little something like this...

The Coathangers new album ‘Larceny & Old Lace’ was released back in June through the excellent Suicide Squeeze and floored us with its energy and attitude. Swinging frantically from ferocious to saccharine sweet, all the while showing an uncanny flair for writing thoroughly addictive hooks, The Coathangers do girl punk with more panache, style and humour than any of their peers. And it’s exactly that which has led us to commit two of our favourite tracks from the record to floppy plastic for your pleasure.

The gloriously gritty a-side ‘Hurricane’ will not fail to have you air drumming at your desk and is accompanied by this rather awesome video:

With XRAY001 very close to sold out now, we've decided we quite like this label-running lark. The Trogons flexidisc seems to have gone down rather well, so thank you to everyone who has helped us make it happen, to those who bought a copy, and of course to Trogons for being our guinea pigs!

Before we move on to XRAY002, here's a scan from NME. Woop!

We have lift off!

X-Ray Recordings presents XRAY001:

TROGONS
‘CONTINA’
SINGLE OUT ON LTD FLEXIDISC & DOWNLOAD APRIL 25TH 2011

Tracklisting:

  1. Contina
  2. Protest Song No. 678
  3. Where’s My Sword (download only)

Formed from the burnt remains and still-kicking bodies of various London groups, TROGONS have picked up a lysergically-stained and goth-whittled spear with which to stalk their deepest fears and dreams. Gemma Fleet of Kasms takes the vocal helm, steering a life-raft of fuzzed-up psyche guitar whirls yanked from the boards of the original nuggets artifacts, a keyboard drone that cloaks the craft in mystery and a locked-in rhythm section. The missing link between reverb-washed Siouxsie And The Banshees' night-creepings and the dizzy psychedelia of Californian travelers, like West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band or the Third Bardo.

Their new single ‘Contina’ will be available on limited edition hand numbered transparent flexidisc through X-Ray Recordings on April 25th 2011. The flexi includes second track ‘Protest Song No. 678’’, with the iTunes bundle giving an additional third track ‘Where’s My Sword’. All tracks were recorded and mixed by fellow Kasms member and one time Test Icicle Rory Brattwell at his studio in East London.

Trogons are Gemma Fleet (vocals, bass), Andrew Robert Doig (guitar) and Phillip Edward Johnson (organ), Dean Hinks (drums).

And we're off!

With Trogons confirmed as the first band to release on X-Ray Recordings, it's all systems go for XRAY001. Kicking off proceedings with a bang, Trogons were on 6music this week doing a session for Marc Riley, which you can listen to online here.

We'll be announcing more information about Trogons' debut single very soon, but in the meantime here's their video for 'Sci-Fi Landscape 600 x 900':
